History: My writeup here.
AU History: The Univir clan is a small, affluent, and rather reclusive and eccentric family line, which claims relation to the Savior via the purported marriage of one of her children to a Shifter Pokemon - the details of the myth change with every generation (some have even claimed that the Savior herself was really a Shifter), but the core idea remains, and the Univir lineage consists of a succession of Shifters and Children of the Verdant Forest, with other Enlightened or non-Enlightened children relegated to the sidelines and eventually drifting away from the family (hence the perception of the clan as small and insular). The Univir family has no one "traditional" career path, but their sensibilities tend to the romantic and they approve of anything that preserves the "sanctity" of Enlightened, turning their noses up at the cutting edge of technology, patronizing the traditional arts, and holding beliefs about Pokemon that border on the occult.
Ondorus was born and raised in this family, the younger of two children born only a year apart. Kuruna, his elder sister, was slated to become the next head of the clan; he himself was raised with no long-term expectations. The two were very close in their childhood, ever-present playmates and companions to one another, only drifting apart in their middle teens when Kuruna became occupied with career obligations. Ondorus struggled with the separation, accustomed to being Kuruna's tag-along and right hand, and finding it difficult to make his own choices for the long-term when he was more or less let go to pursue his own ambitions after a childhood spent following the direction of his family in all matters. He latched onto teachers and older students at school to fill the gap, with surprisingly good results - Ondorus was introduced to many interests and fields of study, and gradually learned to use his knowledge to stand on his own as a person, though he never stopped valuing the opinions of his superiors over his own wishes.
Ondorus ended up on-track to become a Historian, motivated by an interest in the past and all things alien to the world he grew up in. His family showed unease at first, as they consider being involved with salvage and its products to be a bit off-color in the age of the Enlightened - after all, they're relics of an age that was condemned by Pokemonkind and certainly shouldn't be celebrated, as they see it. They quickly relented, though, assuaged by Ondorus' dutiful manner. He attended the University and graduated with high marks, moving straight from the classroom to the Historian's office. From the beginning, Ondorus was very careful about what projects he involved himself in and what theories he put forward, bound by his perceived duty to his family and guilt at the thought of openly betraying their traditions.
He moved out of his family's home into a small personal residence upon graduation, needing the space to keep his materials (and some space in general), though he visits his parents almost every day. Due to playing second fiddle family-wise to the older Kuruna, he's not absolutely expected to return to the family home (as Kuruna is the one pressured to marry and continue the Univir line). If he did, he would be expected by his family to support Kuruna as his first priority; if he chooses to live on his own, he is still expected to uphold the good name of the Univir and stand for their values.
It's been a year since Ondorus began working as a Historian. For now, he's content to carry on with his career, putting off any significant changes to his life until he feels he can be completely certain of whatever choices he makes for himself.
Canon Personality: Ondorus is a composed and collected man who conducts himself with casual dignity. He dresses formally and keeps his living space clean, speaks politely and with complete grammar, holds tradition in high regard (where it doesn't interfere with mutual understanding and general well-being), and is patient and respectful on the whole. It's easy to assume an aloof nature from his initial demeanor and appearance - glasses, hidden arms, even tone and proper manner - but even a bit of talking with him reveals that he's far from the cool, detached scholar one would assume him to be. There's real warmth under Ondorus' formality, and charity, and neighborly kindness. His daily greetings are politely worded, but heartfelt - his gestures of kindness are planned, but no less honest for it.
At his heart, Ondorus is a kind person who wishes the best for those around him. He's built on community sensibilities - be honest, be helpful, get along with one another, and above all help one another, because we're all in this together. Adding to that strong sense of community is his own background as a univir, a member of a species that is extinct but for him and his lifelong-friend-and-elder. The settlement is home, and home is vital. Your friend, who is like you, is vital. Your fellow monsters are vital. Your species, your traditions, your dignity, you are vital. Where Ondorus' own personal expression ends and where his identity as a univir begins is hard to discern, especially now that there's only one other univir to judge by.
No matter what he is, some things would stay the same. Ondorus is an intelligent and inquisitive man, and a quick study in the intellectual realms. He's deeply interested in knowledge, if not always its application. He's also very sentimental and passionate about the things he takes to, even if he has a passive way of expressing his emotions that's further mellowed by his calm outward demeanor. He is patient and doesn't frustrate easily, and when he does become angry it is very rare for him to escalate beyond stern glares and terse conversations.
He's also kind of a huge dork who gets really excited about dumb things, even if he's really good at hiding from strangers just how dorky he can get. Ondorus is the kind of person who reads the back of the cereal box because it's there. He absorbs everything, and likes being able to analyze and overthink things, and reads a lot and loves stories of distant, fantastical adventure (having lived his whole life in one place, everything new is exciting) and acts the way he does in some small part because it just feels cool. A cape is univir formalwear, but he enjoys it for what it is because it makes him feel like a hero from books he read when he was a child. Ondorus likes holding and examining and appreciating handcrafted items because the idea that something has history or that someone put their personal expression into something thrills him. Ondorus has a healthy, thriving sense of wonder that his habit of analyzing things logically can't quash. It only fills him with more awe that he can learn how the amazing things in life work.
Though Ondorus is genuinely kind to just about everyone, his deep relationships tend to be restricted to a small circle of very close people. Ondorus is used to being the reliable one who is depended on by others, and he's hard-pressed to admit his own troubles to others. This isn't usually a problem, because he is very emotionally capable and can generally deal with his own issues. On the other hand, Ondorus tries very hard to be someone who other people can come to with their problems - he doesn't gossip or tell secrets, he makes time to listen to anyone who needs his assistance, and he will put himself at risk for the sake of others' safety. So all of his relationships appear a little unbalanced, with Ondorus in the responsible or supportive role and apparently gaining little from the other party. He is the kind of person who can be content with that. He loves people, and he loves seeing people thrive.
It's tied into another aspect of his identity as a univir - his life span. Ondorus is (by my estimation) a few centuries old, which really isn't that old for a univir or elf, but he and Kuruna have spent their whole lives around people with much shorter lifespans than them. Ondorus is no stranger to losing friends for one reason or another, and what he's gained from it (besides a remarkably zen perspective on life)...it's not quite as unhealthy as "everyone dies too soon so I won't rely too much on anyone", but it's similar. Ondorus is sentimental, he becomes emotionally invested in people and likes to do what he can to see them happy, but he tries not to burden them too much with his own life - their own is short enough.
The same pattern also feeds into his tendency to act a lot older than he really is (he's only like Elf Twenty). In RF3, Ondorus is among the characters who give Micah a cash gift on New Years' Day, an indication that he's taken on a role suited to someone significantly older than he is. Having not lived among many univir, he might as well be that old; his relative age is inconsequential before the fact that he has significantly more life experience than anyone in the settlement but Kuruna.
Ondorus has a bad habit of passivity. He dreams big, believes in wonderful causes, is clever and can concoct excellent plans, but he doesn't often carry anything out on his own. He acts through suggestions and counsel, filtering his wishes through active players like Zaid or Micah, and has trouble with the idea of acting directly against authority - especially when that authority is his lifelong friend, even if he disagrees with her ideologies. Ondorus regularly faces the dilemma of loyalty versus personal convictions, and regularly - reluctantly - chooses the former.
AU Deviation: Most of the deviation is redirection of his interests and concerns - rather than being bound to the Univir species, he's bound to the Univir clan and their odd beliefs about what humanity ideally should be. Rather than being an enormous booknerd and wannabe scholar, he's actually a scholar (and still a booknerd), but his area of study is still restricted by his ties to his clan. Rather than wishing his species could get along with the humans, he wishes his family could be less opinionated (and that the past and the future can integrate, and that the boundaries between Union and the outside world could be eased, and...things along those lines.)
The biggest difference is his age. In canon, Ondorus has a bit of...well, there are some oddities about his age. Univir operate on Elf Age, so he's chronologically really old and has had a lot of friends live and die in his lifetime, but at the same time he's also technically a "young man", and you get the feeling that he has a bit of an age/responsibility complex. He's younger than the Univir woman the protagonist is able to marry (and defers to her), but he takes on such an "elder" role that he gives the protagonist money on New Year's (something that, in RF3, only the people of the older generations - and Ondorus - do. Because Japan.)
BASICALLY SHIT'S WEIRD but in the AU Ondorus is literally about 24 years old and thus doesn't have the whole lifetimes of experience thing that he does in canon. As a result, while he's still going to act largely the same - composed, calm, delicate with his words, etc. - he won't have the weight of years behind them and will be significantly less confident about it. He hasn't had the time to completely work through the "duty to clan" thing, so instead of being very secure and content with the path he's gone down, AU Ondorus is going to have some guilt and insecurity to deal with. He'll be less world-wise and less sure of his judgment, and even more likely to defer to authority (especially now that there is authority in his life that isn't Kuruna.) Essentially, he will think of himself as a young man, and not a voice of experience or someone who should be offering guidance.
...On the trivial side, instead of having a big dorky thing for capes, he entertains dreams of being an intrepid explorer of the outside world. Unfortunately, he is not a bad enough dude for that and he knows it full well.
Canon Abilities: Ondorus has the dubious honor of being one of three characters in the game who you can't take with you into dungeons, so his combat/magic abilities are not easy to judge at a glance. Because of that, I'm going to elaborate a little on each point so you know exactly where I'm getting this from, since you can't easily just google it.
-> Magic is based on life/earth energy. This isn't unique to Ondorus; it's just how his world works. Life is earth energy is love is magic is vegetable power because it's a game about farming and making friends and using your friends and vegetables to punch monsters with magic.
-> High skill with magical staves. Staves are amongst his "liked" gifts, and he rewards the player with one on at least one occasion; it's very safe to assume that not only does he collect them, but they also would be his weapon class of choice if he were to accompany the player. So he's a mage-type, basically.
-> Light magic - basically gobs of ~light energy~, all simple and RPG-like. In the short side-story manga, he dispatches a wild monster with a spell that is not identified, but doesn't particularly look like any element but light, so it's safe to say that that's his favored element. Light spells also tend to be defensive in-game, as they basically do a Mario Kart triple shell thing around the user, so it makes sense for him.
-> Teleportation. I assume this (and gameplay-story segregation) is a big reason he's not recruitable in the game; he is shown during a story cutscene to be able to teleport from the edge of a lake to an island at its center, and take the protagonist with him when he does so.
-> Healing - self and others. Kuruna names it as a Univir specialty, and their form of healing magic is demonstrably different than the kind the player can learn from spellbooks.
Enlightened Abilities: Psychic/Fairy, Child of the Verdant Forest.
AU Ondorus did not have a few hundred years to get used to his powers! Or a real reason to need to use them offensively! Therefore, it makes no sense for him to be anywhere near as skilled as his original self is.
His abilities are mostly based on the concept of moving energy (especially life energy) around, something that is implied by Xerneas' lore to be part of what defines the Fairy-type (and, as stated above, is relevant to his canon self). The Psychic-type has many similar abilities, and deals with a slightly different kind of energy. Ondorus' powers are (though currently underdeveloped) geared mainly towards restoration and support, with some very limited offensive applications; right now, his only real attack is a vague sparkly light attack of the Fairy-type that's similar to Fairy Wind or a very weak version of Dazzling Gleam. He can also use Moonlight to absorb energy and heal himself.
Ondorus' Psychic abilities have been very slow to manifest, and currently he can only use Calm Mind-like powers to turn his focus inward. They will not fully realize until his first evolution, at which point they will become the core of his abilities(because holy shit there are not enough Fairy-type moves). Ondorus will become able to draw in energy from the environment and release it to cast "magic" on areas, similar to Fairy Lock and Flower Shield, and will also learn to use Psychic-type status moves like Kinesis, a weak Hypnosis, and the various barrier techniques. His Fairy gleam attack thing will get a little more effective, and he'll finally learn a generic Psywave kind of move. He will also be able to Teleport, upper limit two hundred feet or so with one passenger at most.
At his second evolution, everything pretty much just gets more effective; Dazzling Gleam is a proper Dazzling Gleam, and the Fairy-type and Psychic-type abilities mingle to bolster each other, so that Ondorus can mess with magic and psychic energies to use field-changing moves like Misty Terrain and Magic Room from both types. He's still short on offense options, but has reasonably powerful barriers and debuffs to defend himself with. His Teleportation range gets much longer, as well.
His only current physical marker of his Enlightened nature is his pale hair and violet eyes. As his Psychic abilities manifest, he will gain tattoo-like markings along his jawline (and possibly other, less visible places, shoulders arms etc.), and at his second evolution his Fairy typing will eventually give him the pointed ears and horn to bring him in line with his canon appearance.
His Child of the Verdant Forest ability is a nod to his status as a monster in canon; all beings referred to as monsters in the Rune Factory world originated in a world called the "Forest of Beginnings". Also, the Verdant Forest vitality transfer ability is similar to the canon Univir's unique healing magic.
Starter Pokémon: Ralts
Notes/Special Considerations: I don't have any plans of my own, but I did some background development on the Univir clan that's...not highly relevant to Ondorus himself because he doesn't have any inheritance rights or influence in the family; they're just things he knows about. It does bear running by y'all anyways, to get approved as a thing that can exist.
If it all checks out as a thing that exists, mods and other players are free to do what they'd like with the background; I realized while coming up with this stuff that the Univir could be a useful plot coupon for Shifter characters, so if anyone wants to use them as such, they can easily do so without their character necessarily having to know Ondorus.

-What do you feel your role in Union is?
To exercise my skills in support of the welfare of its residents, of course. As a scholar, it is my duty to study relevant topics and apply my knowledge to projects that will contribute to this city's future, and as one amongst the Enlightened, it is my place to commune with Pokemon and bring the people of Union closer to them.
-What do you seek for humanity’s future?
That we thrive, first and foremost. And I - Univir believe that we're meant to thrive through complete association with Pokemon, amongst other...I suppose you could call them spiritual achievements? Full understanding of the desires of the gods, and so on. [...] That doesn't answer your question, though, I apologize. That one "seeks" something implies that they work directly to achieve it, doesn't it? In which case I don't think I can claim to "seek" anything more than a better understanding of our past and a clearer vision of our future.-What aspects and traits do you respect most in your individual fellow man?
...I'm not giving you very interesting answers, am I? [Ondorus laughs, quietly and apologetically.] Honesty, empathy, regard for others, capability...confidence and decisiveness, if I had to choose something less obvious. Confidence with intelligence, especially. I've found that the more I learn, the less sure of myself I become; it's an inspiring thing, to see someone at work who has faith in their actions. B-but of course, at the same time, one must have humility to temper one's confidence, or an inspiring sight can become an alarming one.
-What does the story of the Savior mean to you?
Third-Person:
-You plunge into the depths of the Old City. What is it that you seek from the past? Treasure, technology, wisdom?
Quite a few things. [He seems excited.] It's a history of immeasurable impact, not only on the broad scale but on a personal one as well . My clan claims relation - I know, I know how that sounds. But perhaps because of that, I see it as...it's a founding history, and a spiritual tale, but also an expectation, in a way? Her story is far from over, I think. So much of the truth around her has been lost to the past, but something of her lives on forever in Union's present and future.
Third-Person:
-You plunge into the depths of the Old City. What is it that you seek from the past? Treasure, technology, wisdom?
...That implies that somehow technology and wisdom couldn't be one and the same, and that neither could be a treasure, though - doesn't it? Historians seek from the Old City what is most valuable for Union. Those things are often technology, and always impart some kind of wisdom, and...well, much of the time they also have monetary value, though that's really beside the point, where we're concerned...So yes, knowledge and insight are our first priority, I suppose.-You are alone and bereft of your Pokémon allies, upon what strengths do you rely on to see yourself safely home?
...Entirely alone? [Ondorus has to think about this for a moment. He looks a little alarmed.] Ah...well, I can heal myself. Mostly, though...I would require the aid of some other Pokemon. I'm able to speak with them, in a sense, so requesting aid... [He trails off, then changes subject.] I think...my sense of direction would serve me well, at least.-No Enlightened chooses their abilities - and not all are Enlightened. What type abilities would you most desire to manifest and why?
Oh - I'm quite content with what I have, actually. Psychic abilities are something of a challenge to live with, and they're emerging rather slowly in my case...but I can't imagine trading them away for anything. And the Fairy aspect, which is a much more subtle presence - for that to be absent, I can only think that would be unpleasant. I've certainly admired other types in the past, especially the Ground type, but I can only thank the gods for what they've made of me yet.-What would you say the role of Pokémon is in your life?
[Ondorus seems a little lost for words.] That's...I apologize, I'll need to think about that for a moment. [He does. He's very still while he thinks, too, a hand on his chin and gazed locked on the ground. When he starts, it's with an apologetic smile.] I don't mean to quip, but that's a little like asking what the role of water and air are in my life. It feels presumptuous to say it...the Univir clan discourages that distinction, I think. I'm inclined to say that if anyone plays a role in anyone's lives, it's us in theirs.-What would you say the most important occupation is within Union?
...Mm...agricultural work, I think? That's not to say that other occupations are unimportant, of course! But it's the most essential function in this city, which supports all possibility of industry...so I would name it as the most vital to Union's well-being.-The gods of old have returned. How would you be judged if you were chosen as a representative of humanity?
...I think it would be incredibly arrogant of me to think I had any such insight. [There's a pause, then Ondorus coughs awkwardly.] I...may I refrain from answering this question? I don't think I have an answer to begin with, and considering it would be...indelicate. Among other things.
